Texels to 4,000gns from Milnbank

An impressive variety of pedigree female sheep stepped up for Aberdeen & Northern Marts’ two-day winter premier event as the ‘Aberdeen Christmas Classic’, kicked off at Thainstone this week.
Sale leader in the Texel section was an excellent entry from Robbie Wilson’s Milnbank flock.  This Tullagh Saracen sired gimmer sold - carrying twins to the 1,600 gns Glenside Willy Nilly – for 4,000gns to an undisclosed buyer.
Milnbank also received 3,200gns for the reserve champion - also sired by Tullagh Saracen and carrying twins to Willy Nilly.  Last bidders for her were the judges Iain & Jemma Green, Corskie, Garmouth.  These two entries helped Mr Wilson to the top average of £1,767.50 for nine sold.
The Texel champion came from Messrs J Innes & Sons, Duncroft, Huntly with their Strathbogie flock with a Scholars Twenty Twelve ewe selling for 1,600gns again to the Greens at Corskie – carrying twins to Millars Windbrook.
Graham Morrison’s Deveronvale flock also hit the high spots reaching 2,000gns for a Garngour Ultimatum sired gimmer carrying twins to Mullan Vivaldi.  She sold to A Kerr, Admour Cottage, Bolshan by Arbroath.
A reduction sale of the Drumpark flock from Robbie Scott saw trade peak at 1,500gns for the first prize ewe lamb – a Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold sired entry selling to G Morrison, Inchbruich Farm, Cornhill, Banff.
The Suffolk entry sold well peaking at 1,600gns for the champion gimmer from James Innes, Strathbogie flock.  This Ballynacanon Commander sired entry sold – expecting twins to Castleisle Knockout – the buyer was K Ingram, 2 Ballochview, Grange.  Mr Innes averaged £945 for his five Suffolk gimmers.
The Beltex champion from Colin G Mair’s Aviemore flock also led the breed prices reaching 900gns for Aviemore Wanda to the judge Grant Ireland, Blackhillock, Cairnie.
Ross & Kirsty Williams’ Balchurn flock of Zwartbles peaked at 1,000gns twice.  Firstly for the ewe Balchurn Witchcraft selling to S Stewart, Buttery Brae, Drummuir and also for the ewe lamb Balchurn Cask which head home to Messrs Wilkie, Braigiewell, Echt.
Aberdeen & Northern Marts Sheep Sales Manager, Colin Slessor, said: “An excellent increased entry of all classes of pedigree sheep sold extremely well to buyers from across the length and breadth of Scotland at this year’s Christmas Classic.”
