North-east farmers’ co-operative ANM Group has raised £64,000 for Aberdeen-based cancer charity Friends of ANCHOR.

ANM Group’s staff members, customers and associates gathered at Thainstone Exchange, Inverurie, on Saturday, 25th January to mark the 30-year milestone of Thainstone Centre.

The evening began with a drinks reception, sponsored by chartered accountants and business advisory firm Campbell Dallas, followed by a four-course meal from Thainstone Events, before dancing the night away to the popular Bahookie rock Ceilidh band.

“The event was a huge success and attracted 430 people from all over the north and north-east. A tremendous sum of money was raised on the night for a very worthy charity” said ANM Group non-executive director and event organiser committee member Alan Hutcheon.

Grant Rogerson, ANM chief executive, said: “This fantastic achievement is testimony to the hard work and generosity of those involved and the amount raised on the night surpassed any of our expectations.”

Beef was provided by Scotbeef and a charity auction, raffle and heads and tails were major features of the event. A top price of £8000 was paid in the auction for ‘The Roup’ signed limited edition print by Howard Butterworth, who is a well-known artist from Deeside.

A record price was paid for a bag of “neeps” donated from Ross Bros, Wardhead, Strichen, when they sold for £500 to the Duxbury family of Rapid Project Development (RPD), Rothienorman, sponsors of the 2019 Aberdeen Christmas Classic.

Two members of ANM staff were also presented long service awards during the evening.

John Angus, head of livestock at ANM, was recognised for 40 years service and Ian Beaton, ANM Group accountant, for 50 years.

The winner of the heads and tails game was Libby Laing from Sauchen, who will donate her £500 cash prize towards expenses and the MS Society UK, when she runs the London Marathon in April in aid of the charity.

Jim Milne, chairman of Friends of ANCHOR, said: “The ANM anniversary event was a spectacular affair. We were delighted to be the chosen charity for such a special occasion, and it was quite something to witness the generosity in the room on the evening, with a phenomenal sum raised.

“We’re grateful for every penny donated – all of which will go directly to the cause, as the running costs of the charity are covered by Balmoral Group. The ANM team should be very proud of themselves indeed, what a superb way to mark the 30th anniversary of a firm that’s at the heart of the farming and agricultural community in Aberdeenshire.”

ANM Group plans to organise further fundraising activities for Friends of ANCHOR throughout the year.
