Large Entry For Thainstone Rare Breeds Auction

Aberdeen & Northern Marts has a large entry from all over Scotland for its rare and minority breeds’ auction at the Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, on Saturday 5th May.

There are 300 sheep forward including Zwartble, Shetland, Jacob, Welsh Mountain, Hebridean, Dorset, Oxford, Southdown, Hampshire, Ryeland and Herdwick breeds.

They are joined by 30 cattle including Longhorn, Highland and Dexter along with 80 pigs, 15 goats and two Llamas.

There are also 400 cages of poultry and waterfowl along with 200 lots of hatching eggs and a selection of poultry equipment.

In addition, there will also be a sale of horses, ponies and tack along with an auction of implements and hand tools from a bygone era.

The sale of poultry and wildfowl will be held in the Thainstone Exchange from 10am along with the sale of horses, ponies and rare breeds in ring two. Hatching eggs will be sold at 10.30am in ring three and harness and tack will be sold at 11am in ring one. Tools from a bygone era will be sold in the concourse at noon, followed by poultry equipment.

Alan Hutcheon, the deputy general manager at Aberdeen & Northern Marts, said: “Our rare breeds’ sale is always very popular and draws both entries and buyers from all over the country. Saturday’s sale has another high quality entry and there is already a great deal of interest in it.
