ANM Group Photographic Competition Winners Announced

The winners have been announced for this year’s ANM Group photographic competition with the leading prizes going to Turriff, Kemnay and Westhill.

With more than 100 entries, the judging panel had a tough task selecting the top photographs from an outstanding range of work.

Leading the way in the Country Life section of the contest was David Porter from Turriff with his photograph of a farmer competing in a ploughing competition near Auchterless with a wind turbine in the background. The shot was taken in February with a Canon 7D camera, fitted with a 70-200F4L lens. David is well known as a weekly newspaper reporter and was runner-up in the landscape section of last year’s competition.

Runner-up in the section was Allan Sutherland from Stonehaven with his photograph of farmers at Thainstone Mart. Third prize went to Darren Wright from Aberdeen a shot of a cow sitting, chewing the cud in a field.

The winner of the Landscape section was Alexander Thomson from Kemnay with his photograph of a man walking his dog on a frosty afternoon near Kemnay Bridge. Alexander took the photo at 4pm in January using a Nikon d7000 with an 18-105mm lens.

Runner-up in that section was Alex Duncan from Drummuir, Keith, with his photograph of a wind turbine being erected at Hill of Towie, Drummuir with the Caithness hills in the background. Third prize went to Dianne Smith from King Edward with her winter scene at Foulzie Farm.

The winner of the special award for the best photography relating to an area of work carried out by ANM went to Brian Battensby from Westhill for his photographs of Thainstone Mart. The junior award went to 13-year-old Iona Duncan for her photograph of Charlie and his sheep.
